India’s long wait for an Asian Games medal in table tennis, however, only ended in 2018. Since then, the sport has featured at every edition except 1970. Table tennis made its way into the Asian Games programme at the third edition of the continental event in 1958. It was India's third medal in table tennis at the Asian Games.
India's table tennis campaign in Hangzhou ended with one medal, a bronze in the women's doubles, courtesy of Sutirtha Mukherjee and Ayhika Mukherjee. A 10-member Indian table tennis squad, led by Sharath Kamal and Manika Batra, competed at the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, the People’s Republic of China from September 22 to October 2.
